Options
Hearing protection comes in a variety of options, from disposable one time use foam plugs to custom built electronic specialty devices.
Another problem that all these styles of hearing protection have in common is overprotection. When our hearing protection provides too much attenuation for the activity, it can be distracting, prevent effective communication, and ultimately make us want to remove our hearing protection or wear it loosely to allow more sound through. This means we’re still in danger of under-protecting our ears, as a result of having overprotective devices!
Custom Ear Plugs

Invest in Custom Hearing Protection

Custom earplugs avoid all of these problems. When you opt for custom earplugs, we’ll discuss with you the activities for which you intend to use them. We can then help you decide on the attenuators (the filters that block the sound) that will be most appropriate for you. Whether you need hearing protection for music listening or performance, operating machinery, shooting, motorcycling, or any other loud activity, you’ll be thrilled at the performance you get out of custom-molded earplugs.

The filters in our custom earplugs are specially designed to attenuate sound relative to the activity we are choosing them for:

  • Shooting
  • Hunting
  • Music
  • Flying
  • Swimming

This means the sound is presented into your ears in a manner befitting the task, while optimizing sound quality to maintain comfort and communication. Lastly because they’re custom-molded to fit your ears perfectly, they’re the most comfortable option on the market, as well. You may even forget you’re wearing them!

Custom Hearing Protection with Volume Hearing & Audiology

We create custom earmolds by taking an impression of your ear canal. The process only takes a few minutes. After checking your ears and protecting your eardrum, we fill your ear canal with a silicone-like impression material. We may ask you to move your mouth and neck while it sets up, so the impression accounts for the natural movements of your ear canal. This impression is then sent to a specialized lab where a mold is made, and in about a week your earplugs arrive back at our office for pickup.

Custom-molded earplugs are made of medical-grade silicone and should last several years or more if well-cared for. Simply wipe them with a clean, dry cloth after use, and occasionally remove the attenuator filters to wash them with a mild soap solution.

In addition to custom-molded earplugs, we can also create custom-molded in-ear monitors for musicians, and floatable earplugs for swimmers.
